Our Current Curriculum

I'm not fond of the idea of having a set curriculum. I originally wanted to "unschool" Sam. Unfortunately, the state of Florida has strict guidelines concerning homeschooling, so I decided I had to come up with some sort of curriculum to appease the legal requirements of the state.

I did some research, and found a book called "The Well-Trained Mind." I actually did a post about our new curriculum in which I discussed this book.

A wonderful book we're using to guide our "unschooling"

For the most part, I let Sam guide her education. But I'm using this book to give me an idea as to what she would be learning in an actual school setting.

I'm also using several workbooks written by the same authors so that I have actual records of the work she has done in the major subject areas (math, reading, grammar, writing etc.).

I have also added a pagan curriculum. I finally found a workbook that I liked. It's called The Earth Child's Handbook - Book 1: Crafts and inspiration for the spiritual child. (Volume 1) There is actually two of these workbooks, but I wanted to make sure I really liked it and that Sam enjoyed the activities before I spent $40 on both books.

I do still plan on getting the "Witch's Primer," but we have enough right now for at least half the school year. I might think about adding it to the curriculum (ha! that's fun to say) during the winter months.

This page will most likely be changing a few times a year as I adjust the course of Sam's education. But for right now, this is what we're doing. I'm also keeping a lesson plan so that I have an idea of what I want to accomplish each week, and some sort of record to show as evidence should the need arise!

Happy Homeschooling!

Disclosure: The link to the Earth Child's Handbook above is an Amazon affiliate link, and I have included it because I highly recommend this book for the beginning pagan student. It makes things easy to understand and includes a variety of fun activities that you and your kids will enjoy completing together. Sam and I have had a blast with this book.
